On-Air Music Announcer

WTJU encourages applicants whose tastes in music are not main stream. We encourage students to get involved with our jazz, classical, and folk/Americana programming in addition to our indie rock shows.

Important Note: If you want to be an announcer, one step in the application process is to list approximately 25 or more songs or recordings that will provide an overview of your musical tastes or interests (Classical music applicants may submit a list of composers, performances, or compositions). You may include separate lists for the various genres that interest you. Save the list(s) to your computer prior to filling out the application form and then paste the list into the application form when requested.

Take me to the Volunteer Application!

Public Affairs

Each weekday, a crew of students and community volunteers pulls together stories from our community, highlighting the voices and perspectives from U.Va., Charlottesville, and beyond. We interview politicians and visiting speakers, students and professors doing interesting research, artists and performers creating cool things, and people making a difference in their communities. We connect Charlottesville to the world, and we dive deep into what’s happening in our town.

If you’re curious about the community and world around you, find out more. And then fill out the Volunteer Application!

Behind-the-Scenes Opportunities

From answering phones during our fund drives to learning sound engineering for live bands, there are a number of ways to be involved with WTJU that don’t require you to be on-air. Except where noted, basic training is provided, though certain skill sets, knowledge or abilities may be required for some positions.

Lots of ways to be involved, fill out the Volunteer Application to get started!
